Howdy boys and girls, it’s that time again! Haha no, not that time! Put Gpig down and gather around, it’s time for the Steam news update for August 8, 2008!
Because we love vehicular mayhem, we’re happy to announce the Flat-Out 3: Ultimate Carnage will be coming to Steam in August. We just put up the new Coming Soon page, which has an HD trailer worth checking out.
Yeah, that was a rather weak News Update, but what can you do. How’s everyone been around these parts? Has everyone adjusted yet to the new environment? The new environment that is just like the old environment but with a new window and maybe a couch that isn’t as stained, but still has that odd scent that you can never place exactly.
Yeah, feels just like home.

G4’s G-Phoria 2008 Awards ceremony has come and gone and the winners have been revealed. While I won’t list all of the winners (for those you can just go to the G-Phoria website), I will list the first-person shooters that won!
It seems as though congratulations are in order for Valve, Infinity Ward, and Bungie for their success at this awards presentation. And a uh, nod of awkward acknowledgment to Turok developers, Propaganda Games.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you may be unaware that there’s a new Call of Duty game coming out! Even more, you might have been unaware that there will be co-op present throughout the story! Yeah, that is pretty kickin’ rad, I know. Also yes, I do realize this isn’t the first time I’ve said “kickin’ rad” here. Just watch the new trailer.
I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to this. World at War is slated for a November 11th release in North America for the PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.

The BETA date for SOCOM: Confrontation has been set. According to the official SOCOM website, there are only two ways for interested gamers to be a part of it.
GameStop Preorder Campaign
As some of you may have noticed, we have started an exclusive preorder Public Beta campaign with GameStop. If you preorder SOCOM: Confrontation at GameStop, not only will you be able to access the SOCOM: Confrontation Public Beta on day 1 but you will also be able to share the code you receive from Sony PlayStation with two friends as well. SOCOM is all about team work and what better way to encourage team work than to make it easy for you and a couple of friends to get online in the Public Beta. We want you to spread the word about SOCOM and share the experience with your friends, so get down to your local GameStop and pick up your voucher or pre-order here. This offer is good if you pre-order with GameStop either in-store or online.
QORE presented by the PLAYSTATION Network
If you downloaded the June issue of QORE, you, too, will be able to participate. You will be able to download the SOCOM: Confrontation Public Beta from within the application starting on September 8th and play through to September 30th.
Yep, those are the only ways to get in. You either pay to get in, or you pay to get in. This BETA is only for those in North America. Details on a BETA for the rest of the world will be announced soon.

A new trailer has just come out for the PS3 version of BioShock. Have a look:
If that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, there’s also a new hands-on preview from IGN. In the article, they talk up the new “Survivor” difficulty. This mode finds the player struggling to find the resources that are so abundant in the other difficulties. Eve costs for plasmids have been increased, health restoration has been cut back, and the vita-chambers don’t restore nearly as much of your health. Let’s not forget the increased damage from all enemy attacks.
Another important thing they mention in the article is that the PS3 version supposedly looks better. It seems as though the increased capacity of Blu-ray is allowing 2K to include higher resolution textures on the disk, giving everything a visual boost.
BioShock on the PS3 is set to be released some time this October.
